Add to Cart Add to LightboxGot Bike Week? Don’t get me wrong, I think this was the best Daytona ever! As the numbers seem to get smaller every year, it is easier to get around and this was the finest weather in the 32 years I’ve been going, but will there be a Bike Week in 10-years? Yes I have plenty of great shots with loads of bikes on Main Street, but the truth is there are as many if not more cars there than bikes. This is what Main Street looked like on Tuesday in the middle of Bike Week. The authorities just can't get get their heads around the idea that it could be a good thing to close Main street to cars during Bike Week. I would imagine if it was closed to car traffic so a bike could actually get to Main Street without overheating, a lot more bikers would hang out downtown. All those tourist filled cars cars that move bumper to bumper at 2 mph will never stop and spend a dime on Main Street - they are just there to gawk! Our bikes would love it, we would love it, and the merchants that all said it was a terrible year for business would love it. Who knows, maybe bikers would actually feel welcome in Daytona if that happened. Am I crazy or not? Maybe we can start a movement? Daytona Beach, FL, USA. March 11, 2014.
