Young monks at Swayambhunath, which is also known as the Monkey Temple, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The stupa, which is said to be 2,000 years old, is the most sacred Buddhist site for Newari Buddhists in Nepal. Surrounded by Hindu temples, it is a rare instance of two religions being in harmony with each other. Kathmandu, Nepal. Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Photography ©2024 Michael Lichter.
